Banded Stilt (Cladorhynchus leucocephalus)

The Banded Stilt is endemic to Australia.  It feeds in shallow water for small invertebrates such as brine shrimps.  It is nomadic and breeds when conditions allow (which may only be once or twice a decade) in inland salt lakes in WA and SA when they fill. At other times they disperse coastwards, as here, mainly to the south and southwest.  Rarely seen on the east coast.
