Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus latirostris)

Carnaby’s Black cockatoo is restricted to the southwest of Western Australia. In winter they wander from their breeding grounds and often turn up in suburban Perth. They travel around in family groups, seen here with an adult bird feeding a dependent youngster. This bird is in trouble due to ongoing loss of suitable nesting sites. Closely related to the yellow tailed back cockatoo of SE Australia
