Musk Duck (Biziura lobata)

To quote from one of Australia’s main bird field guides – ‘a very strange duck’. The male musk duck has a unique leathery flap under its beak. The musk duck is found in southern Australia, it is uncommon and nomadic.  A female with 3 chicks is shown. The chicks like to ride on mums back, but these are getting too big for more than one at a time now. They feed by diving, for things such as Yabbies (freshwater crayfish). The bizarre male display is also shown.
