Red Knot (Calidris canutus)

The Red Knot breeds in the high arctic. Birds which overwinter in Australia mostly come from eastern Siberia. This bird, with an orange leg flag (for Victoria, Australia) was filmed at Melbourne Water’s western treatment works near Werribee, to the west of Melbourne. Also present is the much smaller Red-necked Stint and the smaller Sharp-tailed Sandpiper and Curlew Sandpiper.
