Scarlet Robin (Petroica boodang)

The Scarlet Robin is an inhabitant of open forest and woodland of southwest, southeast of Australia and also Tasmania. In the Canberra region it is most easily seen in winter, as pairs of birds forage in wooded areas closer to the city, as here. Here we see the stunning male and the less brightly coloured female watching from a perch to pounce on small insects and the like.
