Spotted Pardalote (Pardalotus punctatus)

The tiny jewel-like Spotted Pardalote is a fairly common bird in the forests and woodland of eastern and southern Australia. Usually seen in the canopy feeding on insects such as ‘lerps’, a type of scale insect that infests the leaves of Eucalyptus. They are hole nesters, often in holes in banks or at ground level, such as an old mouse burrow.
