White-fronted tern (Sterna striata)

A small population of this species breeds in Australia’s Bass Strait. In winter, some NZ birds overwinter in southeastern Australian waters.  A common bird in NZ – here filmed taking advantage of nest sites afforded by the remains of an old bridge right along side its more modern replacement in suburban Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. The birds did not mind the traffic and people walking by, a metre or two from their nests.
