The Chowchilla is one of three members of the Orthonychidae a family of birds only found in New Guinea and eastern Australia. Chowchillas are restricted to upland rainforest in north Queensland. They live in family groups looking for worms, insects and the like in the gloom of the rainforest floor. Males have a white breast, female a buff coloured one. In the background I have placed the contact calls these birds make, which were recorded earlier in the day in the same location.
